Floor Trusses

Our fabricators design and sell high-quality floor truss systems that include everything required for a complete timber floor structural system. This package comes with floor trusses, base flooring material, connectors and strong-backs. Our floor truss systems have a reputation for quality and durability.

In order to keep the platform stable while installing the floor system, the trusses are comprised of timber which is placed on the flat. Every truss crafted is made from widely available timber- generally 90mm dry timber.

Size and Depth Specifications

As span capacity for the trusses increases, higher timber grades should be used. Floor truss depth should also be increased to provide excellent structural integrity.

As the timber grade improves, greater spans are allowed. In order to get the best performance from your floor, you may have to pay for more expensive timber chords.

As your depth increases with each selection of timber chord, you can still achieve large spans and maintain stiffness. This can be done with little additional expense.

In order to save money, we recommend using a greater truss depth. This relieves the strain from the chord timber and allows for a strong truss performance without having to short change yourself on the truss’ span capacity.

Types of Trusses Available

Our trusses use two different web system types. Both types utilise timber chords, but one uses metal webs on the verticals (PrydaSpan Trusses) while the other uses webs made entirely from timber (Longreach Trusses).

Longreach Trusses

Longreach trusses are high-quality products that are ideally used for residential floors that are 300mm deep or commercial floors that are 400mm deep. They utilise trusses that are made entirely of timber and that are nail-plated.

They can be used on any common floor loads, handling as much as 5 kPa commercial loads and 6.7 kN point loads. They are not as light as our span floor trusses, but their all-timber construction allows them to create stiffer floors, since they get rid of vibrations in the floor. They are held together by incredibly strong nail plating.

Longreach trusses are incredibly cost efficient, providing remarkable stiffness and span capacity without raising your costs by much as you increase your floor’s depth.

Span Trusses

Prydaspan trusses, use diagonal steel webs. These help make the trusses both lightweight and economical. The webs are made to be used at depths of 250mm, 300mm and 400mm. The deep V profile of the web design makes use of stiffeners that decrease the amount of abuse the trusses may experience while being installed.

Both Longreach and Prydaspan trusses are always made-to-order products with the exact span of your floor in mind. They can be trimmed at the worksite, if you need them to be, but this isn’t something we recommend, since the way the trusses interact with the floor’s span is vitally important to how well they perform.

End Supports

Our software enables floor trusses come with options for 18 different types of end support. A few of them are only available with top chord support designed on top of steel work. Some are reserved for upper storey work, while other are used solely for integral bracing. Every one of them, however, is designed to be quick and easy to install and to provide the best performance over time.
